Name: Liana Dragomir
Canon: Original Character, end of given history.
Title: Not Sparkly Enough
Background:
The Dragomir family was situated in Moldavia, and at the time of Liana's birth was a fairly unknown and insignificant noble family. At even a young age she was surprisingly intelligent and shrewd, learning her studies quickly. She was the youngest of three children, her older siblings both being male. Her time of birth was 1358
Though they were fairly well off and had plenty of land and money to live more than comfortably, the patriarch of the family desired more. His two sons he considered lazy and worthless (to some degree they were, they were pretty much tough braggarts), but he recognized his daughter's worth. But as his family was barely recognized as nobles, how could they possibly progress upwards?
He desperately sought out texts of dark magic, and he used his daughter to assist. After all, a fresh mind could better grasp such alien concepts, right? But many years would pass. Liana learned much of black magic during that time, but wisely heeded her father's words against using it publicly. At the age of 22, she finally discovered something that would perhaps give them the upward lift they would require to finally raise their families status.
There was a catch, however. It required a sacrifice. At this time, Liana had grown weary of her family. Her brothers were pests, her mother was a useless and bed-ridden slob who only complained about her aches, and her father... no, she wasn't close to her father. He had been exceptionally hard on her, and he'd only gotten worse over the years as it had taken so long to discover any way to rise to power. Thankfully he hadn't tried to have her married off... he did recognize that his daughter was growing closer to the answer, but the wait made him volatile.
Liana was through with all of them. She prepared the ritual, informing her father falsely that he too would gain this power. The brothers and mother were just as easily lured in. With little remorse, she slaughtered them all for the sake of the ritual.
The sacrifice was so much more than what the original ritual had called for, that it became something else completely. The power nearly destroyed her, but in the end she transformed into something else... something the world had yet to see.
Liana Dragomir became the very first vampire that walked the Earth.
The death of her family was easily dismissed as psychotic killer that had broken into their home, but she had to take some time to cope with what she had become. The sunlight, as well as holy ground, suddenly became sources of great pain.
But the power she had gained... such power, indeed. The weak willed could easily be convinced to let her do as she pleased, that was her greatest discovery. But, of course, there were those made of sterner stuff that weren't so easily swayed by her power.
Nonetheless, between her knowledge of politics and black magic, she was able to raise her standing as a noble. Within a century, she could be considered more or less the ruler. However, Liana knew that taking the throne would only result in eventual disaster. After all, an eternally living Queen would certainly draw unwanted attention. With that, she decided to rule from the shadows and carefully manipulate the monarchs as they came and went.
Though history largely played out the same as it did in normal Earth's history, Liana did at one point come across one Vlad III during his exile to Moldavia. Deciding she could use him as a puppet, she decided to turn him into one of her kind. However, her plan would go awry as Bogdan II (a prince of Moldavia, as well as the one Vlad III was under the protection of) was unexpectedly assassinated; thrusting Moldavia into civil war and forcing Vlad to flee. As well, the young man had a powerful will that allowed him to easily break free of Liana's mental shackles.
History would move on as normal for a very short while; but Vlad III became Dracula, now horrifically powerful enough that he could have perhaps taken over the world. Liana was about ready to go to war to deal with the man herself, when an unexpected savior wielding a powerful holy weapon was able to single-handedly infiltrate Dracula's castle and destroy the vampire. And from there... history continued on as normal.
Always behind the scenes, Liana made sure that the supernatural side of the world had little influence on Moldavia unless it was her own doing. Werewolves, zombies... most things only of legend in a normal world were in fact real here. Many of these came to Moldavia to seek a sort of respite from persecution, accepting Liana as their ruler; especially after the fall of Dracula, when they had first thought he would be their best option.
Of those that came to Liana, there were two noteworthy individuals. The first was Alicja von Karstein, a necromancer as well as a ghost who was Liana's most trustworthy ally. The second was Sanda Balcescu, a succubus whose manipulative power would perhaps rival Liana's own if she were to fully utilize her power; but she appeared comfortable enough under Liana's direction.
As the centuries passed, Dracula would again and again become resurrected under mysterious circumstances. And once more, before Liana would have to muster her forces to put an end to him, another savior with the same holy weapon would destroy him. During the 1700s, Liana began an investigation into what just made this nuisance come back over and over again. There simply wasn't enough available to research the phenomenon, however, and simply resigned herself to constantly hearing of a certain fool that seemed to keep getting himself killed. She understood the lust for power, but she didn't understand broadcasting her unnatural presence out there so that she would be hunted down and destroyed.
Unfortunately, in 1858, Liana had made a small power play that drew attention to the supernatural side of Moldavia. She had thought that Dracula's latest death would have kept attention away, but she had made a miscalculation and, before she knew it, a certain savior with that same holy weapon would be coming for her.
However, before the would-be 'savior' could arrive, she was betrayed. Sanda literally backstabbed her, shoving a stake through her back and into her heart. Liana... became dust.
What happened between that time and 2012? History would continue on largely as normal, aside from the random appearances of Dracula and his subsequent deaths. However, Liana's dust had been collected, and at some point it had found itself in the hands of a collector in Oregon, USA.
That very collector would soon have an unwanted visit from one Alicja von Karstein, who forcefully took possession of the urn that held Liana's dust. With a ritual that was often used to bring back Dracula, the necromantic ghost was able to revive Liana. It took a few weeks, but Liana was soon brought up to speed as to what just had happened.
Moldavia was clearly out of the question, but Alicja and Liana both could feel that there was something … powerful that was about to happen. It was no coincidence that Liana had been revived in that particular part of the world. Other forces were beginning to gather there. Perhaps even Sanda was still around.
Although the new environment was quite different from what Liana was used to, the ancient vampire was able to adapt. But there were two specific things that bothered her. Dracula had become exceedingly popular in media, from books, to movies and video games... how could somebody who was so good at dying become so famous? And the other... was a certain recently popular/unpopular envisioning of vampires that made them sparkle.
Personality: Quality over quantity here. We realize this is a fun game for silly characters who might have less depth than others. If there’s not a whole lot to your character but they’d be fun to play here, that’s okay! If there is a lot to your character we do ask that you demonstrate that. We want you to show us that you really know and love your character, whether that takes two paragraphs or ten, but if you give us ten the prinny who has to read this might give the Dark Assembly a bad word for you... maybe.
Evilities: This section is called powers/abilities in most apps. What can you do? Bonus points for giving individual abilities names! (bonus points redeeming for nothing, save perhaps our love, sorry~)
Inventory: What stuff did you bring with you? About how much money? The bank may have things that your character would not have carried on their person. Rich characters are entitled to continue being relatively rich if the player wants that.
Notes: Whatever other messages you’d like to put down.
Sample Post: A musebox post is fine as well. It’s not required to be in the NW setting, but is encouraged. What’s important is the demonstration of your character’s voice. We'd like to see at least 150 words.
